Career Opportunities Research

I found some jobs which my current skills could be applied to, the first is a 3D generalist for a studio called Siege Camp.

  • Modelling/sculpting vehicles, weapons, props, and environment assets

  • Rigging and animating models and characters

I believe that my skills could be put to good use in this position as my modelling skill is not limited to just characters.

Another job I found was Character Artist for Dovetail Games.

This job leans harder into my preferred area with characters being at the forefront of this position.

Final Ideas and Idea Planning

At first I played around with a few ideas for my final project. One idea was to do a single character but have them be animated in a small environment and also have them game ready. After some more thinking however I decided to go all in with character design and create 3 characters.

When thinking of characters to do I had a few thoughts. One was to do a higher quality model of a previous character I had come up with for a different project however I wanted to start from scratch so I decided not to go with this idea. Another idea for a character would be an original character using the show RWBY as inspiration, creating my own "Huntsman" in a 3D anime style, whilst I liked this idea I decided to go with something which could be more original as using an existing IP can limit my work and I already had one character from an established IP and 2 would have been too many.

My project idea is to create 3 models to showcase my ability in modelling, character design and concept art.

For my first character I chose an Imperial Guardsman from the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, I chose this as a predecessor did a Space Marine from the same franchise, however I will call him a "Space Trooper" to avoid copyright infringement. For my second character I chose to give my Logo character a body as I always wanted to flush the mascot out more and giving him a 3D form. My final character will be a Knight done in a realistic style with heavy inspiration from Ubisoft's game For Honor.
