Idea inspirations and research

My first character idea was inspired by a game myself  and some others play online, it is a table top roleplaying game called Only War set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. In this game you can create your own planet and regiments and we decided to do this. This character is based off of one I played in the game.

My second character is my Logo character, many companies have their own mascots and characters which they use to advertise their company, seeing this I decided I wanted one for myself and decided to use my logo as a basis for this.

My third character will be a Knight, this is inspired by the design of Knights in World of Warcraft and For Honor, using a realistic art style and the armour being inspired by For Honor.

Software Research for Final Project

For this project I will be using autodesk Maya for modelling, ZBrush for sculpting and Adobe Substance Painter for texturing and materials.

Autodesk Maya is the industry standard software for the games industry and for character design, I have a few years experience in this software and am confident that I can use it efficiently in this project.

ZBrush is a sculpting software often used in tandem with Maya for modelling and sculpting, I don't have as much experience in this software though I have enough knowledge to be able to use it for this project.

Substance Painter is a software which I have used before and can produce great materials and textures for models.

First Character Blockout

Here we can see the rough block out of our first character, I used quad draw to create the shape of the helmet, after I added more rough details to the helmet as using quad draw made the helmet look round and odd, I adjusted this and added details to make the helmet closer to the source material.

I also began to work of the flame thrower backpack for the character.

Concept Art

 Concept Art

Here I created some concepts for different variations of the characters I decided to go with for my 3D modelling project.

Here is the art for my Imperial Guardsman, I tried different helmet styles but settled on the visor as I felt it matched the armour. I also decided his weapon would be a flamethrower.

Here is the art for my Logo character, I tried different looks with scarfs and jackets, but settled on these in particular as I felt it suited the character better.

Here is the art for my third and final character, the knight may not wear a helmet as any Knight characters in For Honor wear helmets and I'd like to deviate a little.

Portfolio

Here is some work which I am proud of and willing to show from the last few years.  A drawing I submitted for a competition at an art socie...
